Petition updateStop the MegaMall -- Sign the New Petition that goes to the Huntington Town BoardUPDATE: A win for residents against Brightview!
Laura DiGrandeDix Hills, NY, United States
9 Dec 2016
Hi all, I share with you news from Huntington residents who live in Dix Hills along Deer Park Avenue. They successfully stopped the rezoning of a multi-acre R40 property that would have created a slippery slope of rezoning.
The outside, for-profit developer Brightview lost, and homeowners won! Please read the letter from one of the leaders of the campaign, Gail Jospa, at the end of this message for more information.
I certainly hope this serves as inspiration to all of you who are still ready and willing to fight against Villadom mall and its threat to our Town's Comprehensive Plan. We can do it with persistence and by working together. We can do it by letting the Planning Board and our town's elected officials know we want to protect our Town's Comprehensive Plan, residential zoning, green space, and the environment from unwanted development.
More to come at a later date - especially how to stay involved and build a larger network among us via email addresses.
Thank you,
Laura D.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I'm so very happy to report to you that after a long three years, almost to the day, of opposing a Change of Zone and Brightview Senior Living on the property known as Bisset Nursery and Island Design Landscaping, we the residents are victorious.
The actions of the Town Board last night resulted in a win for the residents. Brightview lost the application for a Change of Zone.
Those of us who led the opposition did it with the support of our neighborhood. We residents, came together as a community to protect the integrity of our neighborhood and the quality of life we bought into and enjoy. We came together to protect the value of our homes, our largest investment. We came together to oppose a Change of Zone.
On behalf of all of us, I thank Lloyd Landow, a Daniel Lane neighbor and professional architect, who donated his time, skills and experience and so clearly analyzed and articulated our stand to the Town Board members.
Lloyd Landow and I thank Andrew Levitt, our attorney, whose professional guidance and experience was invaluable to our case.
We want to thank all of you who responded to our emails, signed the petitions, informed neighbors and friends, wrote the letters and emails to our elected Town officials, sat through endless Town Board Meetings and addressed the Board during the Public Hearing portion of the meetings.
We sincerely thank and are grateful to those neighbors who gave their financial support to our legal fund. They were instrumental to the positive outcome of our opposition to the change of zone application.
We are a community imbued with the sense of civic responsibility and the fortitude to do what we believe is in the best interests of our neighborhood.
Wishing you and your loved ones a healthy and happy holiday season!
Sincerely,
Gail Jospa
