Hello Petitioners, The Town of Huntington has announced in a press release to The Long Islander and The Observer that the public hearing on Mega-Mall at Mediavilla Orchard will take place on June 22 (see below). ** We are aware there will be speakers in support of the project. ** We need OUR VOICE HEARD. You can help by continuing to let the Town know we object to the project. Here are some steps to take: 1. Come to the hearing on Wednesday, June 22nd @ 7 pm (100 Main Street, Huntington). We are 1,600+ strong on this petition. Let's move that number from online to Town Hall! 2. Speak at the hearing in opposition to the project. This is a very fulfilling way to exercise your right to be heard as a resident and voter. (I'll post in a separate FYI some helpful guidelines on how to prepare this kind of speech if you are a first timer.) 3. Send an email to our Town officials to voice your opposition to the project: Paul Mandelik and Planning Board (planning@huntingtonny.gov), Town Supervisor (fpetrone@huntingtonny.gov), Councilman Cuthbertson (mcuthbertson@huntingtonny.gov), Councilwoman Berland (sberland@huntingtonny.gov), Councilman Cook (ecook@huntingtonny.gov), Councilwoman Edwards (tedwards@huntingtonny.gov), Town Clerk Jo Ann Raia (jraia@huntingtonny.gov) (Again, I'll post in a separate FYI some useful points on writing a letter.) 4. GET THE WORD OUT. Tell your neighbors, friends, and relatives about the proposed project. Let them know about this petition. Ask them to sign, ask them to write to town officials, and ask them to join you at the hearing (You can easily send emails with this petition linked through change.org). LETS KEEP HUNTINGTON BEAUTIFUL TOGETHER! Best wishes, Laura D. _______________ The Long Islander The Observer PUBLIC NOTICE #16-001-S The Town of Huntington Planning Board will be holding a public hearing on June 22, 2016 to consider an Amendment to the Horizons 2020 Comprehensive Plan Update to extend the Commercial, Major Commercial Corridor/Mixed Use and Minor Commercial/Mixed Use Activity Center classifications eastward along Jericho Turnpike to the property located on the northeast corner of Jericho Turnpike (NYS 25) and Manor Road, Elwood, known on the Suffolk County Tax Map as 0400-209-02-(003, 004.001, p/o 005.006), as part of the zone change application known as Syndicated Ventures, #2013-ZM-397.
