A Comprehensive Plan, also known as a general plan, master plan or land-use plan, is a document that designates the future actions of a community. It presents long-range goals and objectives for all activities that affect the local government.
The link to the Town of Huntington's Comprehensive Plan (known as Horizons 2020) can be found at the end of this message. Technical folks will be very interested in page 55, the Town's map on future land use. It explicitly shows the Mediavilla Orchard site on Jericho Turnpike has NEVER been intended to be developed as commercial property.
So now you know why the June 22nd Planning Department hearing is so important. The "Vision for Huntington's Future" does not include a Mega-Mall. And, as if it needs to be any clearer, read the first paragraph of the Comprehensive Plan to understand what an affront to Huntington's residents this Mega-Mall is:
"The Town of Huntington stands at an important juncture in its history. Over the last several decades it has moved from an era of rapid growth with ample reserves of undeveloped land to become a mature, largely built out suburban community for which preservation and enhancement of existing character will replace growth as the primary planning goal. Looking towards the future, the challenges facing the Town will be: How do we maintain the high quality of life that our citizens enjoy? How do we preserve our remaining open space and environmental resources? How do we manage future growth and redevelopment to meet the aspirations of our citizens?"
