Petition for UVM to make a plan for displaced disabled students

The Issue

While UVM has made progress over the last year when it comes to expanding elevator access and addressing ADA barriers, the university still has no plan to support disabled students who are displaced by elevator closures in dorm buildings. UVM Disabled Student Union believes it is the school's responsibility to support these students by providing meal assistance, notifying professors to excuse student absences, and providing temporary housing when appropriate. Additionally, we believe that there should be an opt-in alert system, so that disabled students can be notified of important elevator closures in dorms and academic buildings.
