Petition for Transparency and Accountability Regarding the US$1.50 Fee on Money Transfers to Haiti
To: The Government of the Republic of Haiti, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), and the Superior Court of Accounts (CSC/CA)
For years, every person sending money to Haiti has paid an additional US$1.50 fee on each money transfer. Millions of Haitians in the diaspora have faithfully contributed this money while also supporting their families and the Haitian economy.
As citizens and members of the Haitian diaspora, we respectfully request a complete public report answering the following questions:
How much money has been collected through the US$1.50 transfer fee since its implementation?
What government agencies have managed these funds?
How has every dollar been spent?
Which projects were financed with these funds?
What measurable results have been achieved?
Are annual financial audits available to the public?
If not, when will they be published?
We believe that transparency strengthens democracy and builds trust between the Haitian people, the diaspora, and public institutions. Our request is not political. It is a call for good governance, accountability, and responsible management of public resources.
The Haitian diaspora contributes billions of dollars to Haiti every year. Every contributor deserves to know how this mandatory fee has been used.
We respectfully call upon the Haitian authorities to publish a comprehensive public report and commit to regular financial transparency regarding these funds.
Transparency builds trust. Accountability builds nations.
