Petition for the Resignation of BOE Members at CSD
Petition for the Resignation of BOE Members at CSD
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call for the resignation of Judith Hight and Jan Woodworth, who were serving at the time community members raised concerns regarding Travis Barr-Longo and who failed to take meaningful action in response to those concerns.
This petition is not directed at newly elected Board members (Emily Weimer, Jeff Dewan & Sasha Rasmussen) or members who were not involved in the decisions made during that period. Rather, it is focused on the individuals who were entrusted with addressing community concerns, ensuring accountability, and protecting public trust, but failed to do so.
At the time, many residents publicly questioned whether Mr. Longo’s conduct, judgment, and public behavior were consistent with the standards expected of a school leader and whether he should continue to be presented as a trusted resource and “safe space” for students. These concerns were repeatedly brought before the Board of Education.
Despite those concerns, the Board failed to address them in a transparent and meaningful way. Instead of engaging with parents and community members, the Board relied on legal counsel while allowing concerns to go unanswered. No significant action was taken until after Mr. Longo’s arrest.
The issue was never confusion about a stage persona or differing viewpoints. The issue was whether concerns raised by parents regarding judgment, professionalism, and student welfare were being taken seriously. The Board’s failure to respond appropriately eroded public trust and raised serious questions about its commitment to accountability and its responsibility to safeguard students.
The community places its trust in elected Board members to exercise sound judgment, listen to concerns, and act in the best interests of students. We believe that trust has been broken. For that reason, we respectfully call for the resignation of the Board members who failed to fulfill those responsibilities.
