The Issue

To Whom It May Concern:

We, the undersigned, respectfully call for the protection and preservation of democratic principles, constitutional accountability, and the rule of law in the United States of America.

This petition affirms that informal practices, political norms, or procedural tactics must not be used to override or undermine the United States Constitution, established legal processes, or the system of checks and balances upon which our democracy depends.

• The rejection of informal or non-binding practices, including those that obstruct legislative accountability or transparency, such as the so-called “Hastert Rule,” when used to prevent duly supported legislation from reaching a vote.

• The reaffirmation that no individual, including a sitting President, is above the law.

• The prohibition of policies or interpretations that shield any public official from accountability for unofficial acts that may be criminal or unlawful.

• The enforcement of constitutional principles consistent with rulings such as Trump v. United States (2024), which clarify that unofficial acts are not protected by presidential immunity.

• The protection of democratic processes from manipulation through informal procedural tactics that attempt to bypass lawful governance or avoid accountability.

We believe that democracy depends on transparency, accountability, and adherence to the Constitution—not on informal customs or political convenience.

Call to Action

We urge elected officials, policymakers, and institutions at all levels of government to uphold their oath to the Constitution, ensure equal application of the law, and reject any efforts that weaken democratic governance or accountability.
