Post amble (additional information and context) - In the heart of the Municipality of Central Elgin, we have many beautiful public spaces, yet one critical component is missing; a safe, designated area where our dogs can run freely and enjoy off-lead exercise. Many residents experience this gap in our community resources firsthand. Our four-legged companions, who bring joy and companionship into our lives, currently lack a nearby space where they can socialize, play, and exercise off-lead.

For many local dog owners, finding a safe place for their pets to exercise freely is a daily struggle. With the absence of a designated area, dogs are left with limited options, often having to be confined to small yards or restricted to on-lead walks. This lack can affect a dog's physical health, their social behavior, and the bonding time they share with their human families.

Municipal parks, such as Little Creek Park and the 'berm', present the perfect opportunity for creating a small, fenced-in dog park(s). Such a development would not only enrich the lives of local dogs but also enhance the community by encouraging responsible dog ownership and fostering social interactions between dog owners.

The benefits to establishing a dog park are clear and supported by numerous studies. Research from reputable animal welfare organizations indicates that regular off-lead exercise is crucial for a dog’s physical health, happiness, and socialization. Furthermore, having a designated dog area significantly reduces potential conflicts in shared spaces, ensuring that everyone in our community can enjoy our public areas safely and responsibly.

The financial and logistical feasibility of a dog park in Little Creek Park and/or the berm is highly achievable. With community support and municipal backing, the costs involved can be minimized and shared, and the parks' existing infrastructure can be utilized or minimally modified to accommodate this need.

We urge the Municipality of Central Elgin to take action and establish dog parks at the south end of Little Creek Park and the berm. By doing so, we can provide spaces where dogs can exercise freely and safely, and where community members can gather, fostering a closer-knit community. Please stand with us in making Central Elgin a more inclusive and accommodating place for all. Sign the petition today to support our initiative for dog parks and help create a happier community for us and our canine friends.
