Dear Oakton Community,
We need your help in convincing our government leaders that we need money budgeted to fix the Chain Bridge Corridor Intersections. Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is seeking public comment from members of the community concerning the proposed FY 2025 – 2030 Transportation Priorities Plan. We are asking for you to send your comments asking for funds to improve the Oakton Chain Bridge Corridor intersections.

Total Transportation Improvement budget monies are $2.9 billion. Sadly, the Board of Supervisors did not budget any monies to improve the safety of Blake Lane nor for improving the Oakton Chain Bridge corridor intersections. They have budgeted 16 million for Vienna metro bicycle improvements and .89 million for a Bushman/Blake pedestrian crosswalk improvement. We did not see any other money budgeted specifically for Oakton roads infrastructure.
We need our community’s voice to be heard! Your comments can be submitted electronically using the comment field on the FCDOT webpage. All comments must be submitted/received no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23.

Dear FCDOT Officials,
Please provide budgetary monies for improving the Oakton Chain Bridge Corridor intersections as well as Jermantown/Blake Lane in the 2025-2030 Transportation Priorities Plan.
The Board of Supervisors recently approved a 120% increase in density for the Flint Hill Suburban Center in Providence District. The Developer’s Transportation Study has indicated that seven intersections along and adjacent to Oakton’s Chain Bridge Road are failing to support current traffic during peak hours and will be completely overwhelmed with this higher density. Additionally, in the past, the community has expressed safety concerns regarding Blake Lane where numerous traffic and pedestrian accidents have occurred including the death of two Oakton students.
The Oakton Community is advocating for monies to be allocated to improve our road infrastructure regarding traffic flow, connectivity, safety and walkability, specifically for the Oakton Chainbridge Corridor and Jermantown/Blake Lane.
Our specific requests are:
• Improve Traffic Efficiency and Safety. Improvements to our intersections and road infrastructure to allow our local community vehicles and pedestrians to move efficiently and safely through our intersections.
• Preserve Oakton Character and Livability. Utilizing proposed changes to the road infrastructure, establish a visual identity and landmark(s) recognizing Oakton as a community where residents live, work, shop and play; not merely a cut through to Vienna or I-66. We believe a physical demarcation(s) using our road infrastructure to enter our community will ensure pedestrian safety with cut-through traffic.
