Petition for Safe and Accessible Sidewalks on Waterman Street

The Issue

The sidewalk on Waterman Street between Thayer and Hope Streets is in urgent need of repair. Cracks, uneven surfaces, and general deterioration make this vital walkway unsafe for pedestrians and inaccessible for individuals with disabilities or mobility aids. These hazards create barriers for wheelchair users, strollers, and pedestrians, violating the principles of equitable public space access.

We are asking the City of Providence Department of Public Works to take immediate action by:

  1. Repaving the sidewalk on Waterman Street between Thayer and Hope Streets to eliminate hazards and ensure safety
  2. Ensuring all repairs comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards, promoting accessibility for all community members
  3. Implementing a long-term sidewalk maintenance plan to prevent future disrepair.

Safe, well-maintained sidewalks are essential to foster an inclusive community. By signing this petition, you advocate for a safer, more accessible, and more connected community. Together, let’s pave the way for a more accessible Providence!
