Thank you so much for your support. Just wanted to offer you this final update.
While we collected over 1700 online signatures and over 1500 paper signatures, the Board of Supervisors failed to support the modest request to study oversight models. Supervisor Medina made the motion, but no other supervisor seconded it, so it died on the floor.
We want more than a study. We want real independent oversight of the sheriff's department, and we believe all of you do, too. The deaths keep climbing, the lawsuits and settlement amounts keep rising, and the Supervisors refuse to act in the interest of the people, all the people.
For these reasons, we have decided to work on securing signatures for a November ballot initiative that would ask Riverside County voters whether they support Sheriff Accountability. We believe they will overwhelmingly support this initiative.
If interested in supporting these efforts, please let us know. We are still working to bring the necessary accountability to the Sheriff's Department, and we need your help to make it happen.
Thank you and happy Holidays.
