Petition updatePetition for ResignationCouncil Will Not Give Martin, Pearson Raises In 2026; Job Performance Cited

Although more than 90 percent of Logansport city employees will receive 3 percent pay raises beginning Jan. 1, the city's elected officials will not.

Monday, the City Council agreed in a committee meeting not to award Mayor Chris Martin and Clerk-Treasurer Tyler Pearson Raises based on their job performance. Martin reportedly left the meeting without making any comment. A story on the meeting appeared in today's Pharos-Tribune online.

Although Democrats hold a 4-3 advantage on the council, it was apparently clear that the feeling of the council was unanimous. It serves as a virtual "no confidence" vote in Martin and Pearson as the city languishes in a difficult period for unemployment, the closure of several downtown restaurants and the failure to attract major housing developments to the city.

This comes a year after council members voiced their concerns about Martin to him at a public meeting, months after a Kokomo attorney appeared before the council indicating his client had not been paid for more than $40,000 the mayor owed him, and weeks after two garnishment hearings in Cass Circuit Court were announced that could impose restrictions on Martin's city paycheck.

These embarrassing situations facing the city and its leadership are not common in other cities -- in fact, they're very uncommon.

Meanwhile, the city suffers.

Please join nearly 35 dozen local residents in signing the petition demanding his resignation and his replacement with a non-partisan, professionally trained city manager. Your support is appreciated.

Thank you for caring for Logansport's future.
