It was a somber night Tuesday at McHale Performing Arts Center, where a public hearing on proposed improvements to Cass County's dangerous intersections along the Hoosier Heartland Corridor.
Among the speakers was Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroeder who called for improvements at one city intersection at 18th Street and the Hoosier Heartland. But three parents who lost children in separate accidents spoke in support of needed improvements to Cass Station Road (600E) and the Heartland. The Indiana Department of Transportation proposes to add a crossing pattern that will divert traffic on 600E to turns in the median. But many people called for an overpass to be installed to eliminate traffic issues. Motorists unfamiliar with the intersection, the lack of good lighting there and the frequency of traffic from outside the county, particularly for Purdue sporting events, was a concern. There as no commitment from INDOT to build an overpass.
Logansport Mayor Chris Martin was absent, as he is many days in his office. Again, the mayor is AWOL when it comes to major issues confronting our city.
For those and other reasons, we implore you to sign the petition demanding his resignation and his replacement with a full-time, trained and certified city manager.
Thank you for caring for our community, and its safety.
