On a holiday week when trash pick-up is traditionally delayed only one day in Logansport, recycling toters are overflowing.

The city's contract with Republic Services is expiring after more than two decades with the city, yet the problems continue. Alleys are filled with trash and recycling toters that have yet to be collected, creating messes in various areas of the city -- some with noxious smells.

Trash collection and recycling is one of the fundamental duties a mayor and his Board of Public Works and Safety have to perform in every city. But it's not being performed well.

This is another ongoing problem that is among the reasons why more than 30 dozen Logansport residents have petitioned to demand Martin's resignation and his replacement with a certified, non-partisan city manager.
