The parking lot next to Logansport's City Building has been repaved this month, but one space will likely be aging better than the rest.
Mayor Chris Martin is frequently absent from the City Building and does not show up for work for several days at a time. The mayor's parking space has been a metaphor for the two most controversial mayoralships in city history. Former Mayor Ted Franklin had a larger square painted bright yellow behind the City Building to denote parking for his yellow Corvette, then removed the yellow space. Now, Martin, unlike other city employees, could park on the street without being ticketed as Franklin was by Logansport police -- because he isn't at work long.
If you haven't noticed, the next time your driving on East Broadway, check out the mayor's personal space next to the sidewalk from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Unless there is a city meeting he has to chair, it usually is vacant.
This lack of work ethic is the reason why a city council committee is seeking a time clock for city employees to punch.
Taxpayers, who are footing the bill for an absentee mayor, are invited to join us in signing this petition demanding his resignation -- and sharing it with a friend. Thank you for caring for our community and being concerned about Logansport's future.
