As the number of Logansport residents petitioning Chris Martin to resign as mayor continues to grow, the mayor issued a statement.
After weeks of delays in trash and recycling pick-up in alleys and on streets throughout the city, Martin apologized for the city's problems in executing services through Republic, the firm which has operated trash collection for the city since the Hettinger Administration. Martin also announced that the city would be switching to a new firm later this year, but gave no indication if that contract would result in a greater cost to the city, or if city taxpayers who were deprived of trash pick-up will receive a rebate on their monthly trash fee which he raised early in his first administration. Martin also did not mention if the new contract was bid openly to secure the lowest possible bid for city trash collection, or if Waste Management, which pays taxes to Logansport and Cass County, was sought out to bid on the services.
Meanwhile, the petition we have been circulating has surpassed 25 dozen. These are friends, neighbors, co-workers, church members and citizens from both parties who strongly believe we have to do better for our city, and we can only do that if Mayor Martin resigns. Consider what so many people have done and ask how long you will wait until you add your name to the petition and share it for the greater good of our community.
Thank you for caring for Logansport,
