Logansport residents who lived here from 2012-2015 will remember controversial Mayor Ted Franklin for ordering a giant yellow parking space for his yellow Corvette in the City Building parking lot.

His erratic temper later led him to declare a city state of emergency so he could legally drive without getting a CDL. The parking space incident, which happened after he received a parking ticket from his own police department, was the incident that is long remembered.

Fast forward to the next Republican mayor, Chris Martin, who is known for not needing his parking space more than half the time. It's telling that Martin doesn't show up for work, even in an era when staying at home is more common. Martin's absence is evident at public meetings, at public parades and events.

As some have mentioned, Martin, who was elected mayor during Logansport High School's Good Government Day when he was in high school, would not have dreamed of not showing up to serve in that honorary capacity. But for the one that now pays him more than $70,000, he has become known as an absent mayor who sends a poor message to city employees and taxpayers.
