Petition updatePetition for ResignationMartin Fails Greensfelder Restoration Efforts, Adds To Lackluster Preservation Record

One of the most prominent and endangered historic homes in Logansport is for sale again.

Although a Carmel family took on the challenge of restoring the home once owned by legendary twin clothiers Herbert and Melvin Greensfelder, it is now as endangered as ever. While the previous administration secured a new historic district including the home, the Memorial Center and the Pollard-Nelson house, Mayor Chris Martin has failed to provide any city funding or grants to restore a significant structure that is internally sound but externally at risk,

This is a structure that has been consistently identified by Logansport Landmarks as in critical need. The rationale for supporting city fun ds for historic preservation is that, as Indiana Landmarks can confirm, preserving historic homes retajns property values and the tax base more than newer stick-built homes.

Though Martin wanted outright ownership of the Memorial Center with no plan for redevelopment unlike the previous administration does not come as a surprise because of his disdain for any support for the Tipton home on North Street.

This adds to a lackluster record on historic preservation in our community,

With 230 residents now adding their names to a petition demanding his resignation, we invite and implore you to join your fellow taxpayers, friends and neighbors in seeking better times and better days for Logansport,

If not us, who? If not now when?
