UPDATE: 14/08/2026 - Meeting with City of Melbourne

Dear supporters of Yarras Edge,

Today, I met with Matthew and Carlo who are members of the team at City of Melbourne responsible for naming of roads and suburbs.

Although I thought and honestly told them that I was concerned the meeting would be met with a “brick wall and deaf ears”, I was pleasantly surprised with the exact opposite, both council members were very professional, positive, receptive and provided clear constructive feedback and possible next steps. They presented the council’s previous stated position, which is in line with Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) strict guidelines, that the duplication of name “Yarra” plus the designation of “edge” as well as the geographic size would not be supported.

However, in response, I shared the logic and reasoning behind my proposed name change addressing these points and why the name should in fact be supported.

We agreed that no decision could be made without the support of GNV.

Matthew has kindly offered to share the contact details of the key decision maker at GNV, and I will be looking to meet with them in due course. They will ultimately decide and guide the City of Melbourne. Once I have met with GNV I will provide the community with an update.

The feedback and suggested options presented to me by City of Melbourne are very much appreciated and will undoubtedly help to support our campaign.

I would like to publicly thank Matthew and Carlo for their time and look forward to the next stage of the approval process, when I meet with GNV over the coming weeks.
