Subject: RE: Correspondence from the City of Melbourne RE: Proposal to Change Suburb Name and Postcode (SF WO 1056295)
Dear Julian,
Thank you for your response and for taking the time to consider the additional information provided.
I have carefully reviewed your reply, and I must admit I am disappointed that Council’s position remains unchanged without further engagement on the substantive points raised. In my previous correspondence, I sought to directly address the concerns outlined — particularly in relation to Principle J, precedent examples, geographic scale, and alignment with the broader Fishermans Bend context.
In that regard, I had hoped the response would reflect a reassessment of those points or provide further explanation as to why the clarifications and supporting evidence were not sufficient to warrant a different conclusion. Instead, the response appears to restate Council’s earlier position without addressing the specific matters raised in my follow-up.
Given the level of detail provided and the intent to work constructively within the framework, I respectfully consider that this would warrant a more considered reassessment rather than a reaffirmation of the initial position.
I remain of the view that the proposal satisfies the intent of the Naming Rules when applied with appropriate context and precedent, and I would welcome the opportunity for a more detailed review or discussion to ensure the submission has been fully and fairly evaluated on its merits.
If there are specific aspects of the submission that remain unresolved or areas where Council requires further evidence or clarification, I would be happy to address these directly.
I appreciate your continued engagement and look forward to your response.
Regards,
Sam Aftasi
