UPDATE: 29 September 2026 - Outcome and Application

Evening All,

Quick update.

I received an email from and spoke with GNV this afternoon, following their meeting with City of Melbourne representatives. The topic of our suburb name change was discussed and received positive support now that Yarra’s Edge is not being considered. They encouraged me to submit a formal application, via a naming proposal in compliance with section 6.1.1 of the naming rules.

So, I did just that, I completed and submitted an application this afternoon to start the approval process. City of Melbourne will review my application then discuss further with Geographic Names Victoria (GNV), Emergency services, AusPost etc. which takes time.

After this, the community will be engaged for input/ feedback on:

• separation from Docklands

• new name options: Lorimer, Lorimer Point, Lorimer Quay or other.

Rest assured the community has to be consulted regardless of my thoughts on the name.

Overall, I'm told it's a 12 month approval process from now until signoff. So, by this time next year, fingers crossed we hopefully have a new suburb, new name and new postcode.  But nothing is guaranteed, its just the first official step.

With our communities support i know we can achieve this objective.

 This is an exciting time for our community.
