We, the undersigned members of this petition, are banding together to advocate for Passaic Pride. Despite strides in LGBTQ+ social acceptance, our community still lacks the widespread visibility and specialized support services our LGBTQ+ members deserve. Recent protests by Passaic Preparatory Academy's Gay Straight Alliance have underscored the urgency of this need.

Passaic Pride has been the cornerstone of LGBTQ+ representation in our city since its inception. For three years, it has been championed by a dedicated coalition of LGBTQ+ residents and allies, working tirelessly to create a vibrant, inclusive space previously absent from our community. Last year's Pride event was a testament to our growing unity, attracting over 150 attendees, featuring 5 Drag Queen performances, and hosting representatives from 5 nonprofit organizations.

However, despite its undeniable success, Passaic Pride still lacks support and recognition from city officials. This festival cannot remain solely a grassroots-led initiative indefinitely. It's 2024, and the time for passive acknowledgment has passed. We urge city officials to step up and actively participate in the planning, advertising, and promotion of this event to demonstrate their genuine support for our LGBTQ+ inclusivity. Now is the time for tangible action.
