Petition for MINI Cooper to Recall & Replace Faulty Engine Mounts at No Cost to Owners

Petition for MINI Cooper to Recall & Replace Faulty Engine Mounts at No Cost to Owners
The Issue
Thousands of MINI Cooper owners with 3rd gen models mainly but also others face repeated issues with engine mounts that break prematurely, often long before typical wear and tear would justify replacement. Despite widespread complaints, MINI has yet to acknowledge or address this design flaw, leaving loyal customers to bear the cost. We believe MINI should take responsibility for this defect and offer a recall, covering replacements and repairs.
Problem Statement:
MINI have a well-documented history of failing engine mounts that lead to costly repairs and safety concerns. Engine mounts are crucial for stabilizing the engine, reducing vibrations, and maintaining performance. However, many MINI Cooper owners are forced to replace them as early as 30,000 miles—a far cry from the expected lifespan of a quality engine mount.
Key issues include:
Premature Wear: MINI Cooper’s engine mounts break down far sooner than in comparable vehicles.
Financial Burden: Engine mount replacement can cost upwards of several hundred dollars, and frequent replacements are not feasible for most owners.
Potential Safety Hazard: Unstable engine mounts could increase vibration, damage other engine components, and potentially lead to dangerous on-road incidents.
Call to Action:
We, the undersigned, call upon MINI Cooper and its parent company, BMW, to:
1. Issue an official recall for MINI Cooper engine mounts across all affected models.
2. Cover replacement and repair costs associated with engine mount failures under this recall, even for vehicles outside the warranty period.
3. Commit to quality in future models to prevent similar issues from recurring.
