I was pulled into a meeting (Becca the petition starter) with administration about the petition, and what exactly we wanted to be done. The college will be releasing a statement sometime today to all faculty and students about the situation. They have also talked about using what happened as an example for future orientations, and even possibly puttin in an example similar to our situation into the college's teaching courses (it would have future teachers respond with how they would proceed with what happened (excluding names)).
