The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, property owners, and concerned community members, respectfully request Amador County Board of Supervisors’ support in addressing the growing traffic safety concerns on Upper Ridge Road, Pine Grove. We have witnessed an alarming increase in speeding, reckless driving, near-collisions, and traffic accidents along Upper Ridge Road and as a result, many residents no longer feel safe traveling on this road. Recently, there have been several accidents in a short period of time - one of which was a fatality. We are deeply concerned that without intervention, these incidents will continue.

Therefore, we respectfully request that the Amador County Board of Supervisors:

1.) Review recent traffic collision/incident trends before January 2025 (when speed limit was increased to 40 MPH) and compare with more recent traffic collision/incident trends from January 2025 to present; determine if another Engineering & Traffic Survey needs to be conducted to lower the speed limit.

2.) Install four stop signs at identified high-risk collision/incident areas, including at or near the intersections of Upper Ridge and:
a. Lupe Road or Ponderosa Way
b. The Call Church - 18400 Ridge, Sandar Road, or Toma Lane
c. Tanyard Lane, Bowman Road, or Arden Court
d. The Upper Ridge Veterinary Care - 17825 Ridge, Robinson Road, or Surrey Jct Lane

3.) Install ‘SCHOOL - 25 MPH when children are present’ signs in each direction before the 'Mike Clark Field’ at the Community Christian School - 14045 Ridge, and consider any additional safety measures to protect our community’s children, including but not limited to bus stop visibility and signage along Upper Ridge.

4.) Replace current weight limit signage with more visible signs stating restrictions and available alternate route(s) to take.

5.) Request increased California Highway Patrol (CHP) enforcement presence on Upper
Ridge Road - targeting speeding, reckless driving, stop sign enforcement, and weight limit violations during high-volume traffic times/days.

Our goal is not to inconvenience drivers but to improve public safety and protect the residents who call this area home. We appreciate your attention to this matter and respectfully ask for your assistance in helping make Upper Ridge Road safer for our community.

“A great deal is being done to increase safety. Many conversations are taking place with CHP. Google has been contacted to stop sending trucks down Ridge. The speed limit is set by an official study. If we vary from the study, speeders cannot be legally cited. Two CHP officers live on Ridge Rd. They patrol it often. The commercial CHP lives on Climax. He is constantly encouraging trucks and trucking companies to use designated routes. Unfortunately, this is the inevitable result of freshly paved, smooth roads. Another contributing factor is spotty cell service. People get all their notifications at once when they re-enter cell connection and those places are the primary problem areas. In a recent terrible accident, the driver admitted that he was watching a video his friend sent him. Smooth roads and distracted drivers are a dangerous combination. The above was an email response we received regarding this petition.]”
