The Issue

On September 28, 2024, our lives were shattered when a drunk driver took the life of our beloved Alejandro Contreras. This careless individual not only killed Alex but also moved his body from the scene and left without even a hint of remorse. While Alejandro clung onto life this heartless person did nothing. Today, he is out on bail, enjoying his life as if nothing happened, potentially only facing one year of incarceration.

This is a tragic lens into how lenient DUI laws can be, giving offenders minor consequences for catastrophic actions. In the United States, approximately 28 people die daily due to drunk driving accidents. Yet, many offenders walk away with minimal jail time, like in Alejandro's case. This gives them the opportunity to potentially repeat their actions and harm more people.

We seek justice for Alejandro and countless others who have lost their lives to drunk drivers. We call for the re-evaluation and reinforcement of DUI laws to ensure stricter penalties for such heinous acts. No more should an offender walk away while families reel from unstinting pain and unbearable loss.

Let our voices echo into the chambers of those powers who have the capacity to influence and enact the necessary changes. By signing this petition, you help bring Alejandro's story to the forefront and demand justice not just for him, but for all victims of DUI accidents. Please sign this petition. Let's ensure drunk drivers are held accountable properly, and that Alejandro's untimely death will not be in vain.
