Petition for Immediate Reform at the Multicultural Family Organisation (MFO)
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned by the ongoing issues at the Multicultural Family Organisation (MFO) and urge immediate action to restore its mission, integrity, and commitment to serving multicultural families. We call for fundamental changes to be made to the organisation's management structure and practices to ensure that MFO continues to serve the Gold Coast community with respect, dignity, and competence.
We respectfully demand the following actions be taken:
- Removal of Current Management: The current management at MFO must be removed, and a new, inclusive leadership team must be introduced. This new management should prioritise fairness, transparency, and a commitment to the values of equality, social justice, and human rights.
- Reinstatement or Rehire of Staff: We call for the reinstatement or rehire of staff members who were either forced to leave or resigned due to the toxic work environment created by poor management. These dedicated professionals are essential to restoring the integrity and effectiveness of MFO's services.
- Restoration of MFO's Core Values: MFO must return to being an organisation that is competent, caring, and hardworking. The values that once defined MFO should be upheld, ensuring that all clients and staff are treated with respect and dignity.
- Shift from Profit-Focused to Community-Focused Management: MFO must be operated as a Community Organisation, not as a profit-driven corporation. The core mission should focus on the wellbeing of multicultural families, not on financial gain.
Major Issues of Concern
We are raising the following serious concerns that must be addressed immediately:
- Discrimination: It has been made clear by certain members of management that Muslim clients, particularly those wearing hijabs, are unwelcome. This discriminatory attitude goes against the very principles of multiculturalism and equality that MFO claims to uphold. If there is more, please let us know.
- Verbal Abuse: There has been an increasing trend of verbal abuse within the organisation, particularly towards clients and staff. This behaviour is unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.
- Fraudulence: We urge all readers of this petition to carefully examine the organisation's budgets, receipts, and invoices. There are serious concerns about financial irregularities and potential fraudulent practices that require immediate investigation.
- Bullying and Intimidation: There has been an ongoing effort to silence clients and staff who are speaking out against the issues within MFO. The bullying and intimidation tactics used by management must end.
- Abuse of Power: Management has been accused of abusing their positions of power, engaging in actions that may constitute criminal activity. We demand full transparency and an independent investigation into these allegations.
- Safety Concerns: Incidents of unsafe behaviour and practices have been increasing. There is a growing concern about the safety of clients, staff, and support workers within MFO. It is vital that the organisation take immediate steps to ensure the safety of all involved.
Additional Issues
1. Unwelcoming Atmosphere: MFO has become an increasingly unwelcoming environment for many of its clients, making it difficult for those in need of support to seek help.
2. Judgemental Attitudes: Many clients have reported feeling judged by staff and management, further alienating vulnerable individuals who require assistance.
3. Exploitation of Vulnerable People: There are concerns that MFO is taking advantage of vulnerable individuals in order to push personal or organisational agendas. This behaviour must stop.
4. Uncooperative Environment: The lack of cooperation between management and staff, as well as between staff and clients, has hindered MFO's ability to effectively support its community.
5. Oppressive Practices: The overall oppressive nature of the current management has created an environment where people feel stifled and unable to voice concerns or seek help.MFO's Mission and Our Concerns
According to MFO's website, the organisation has been serving culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families on the Gold Coast since 1996, providing services such as settlement support, domestic and family violence support, training, employment, and more. The website outlines MFO's commitment to promoting multiculturalism and ensuring that all individuals feel safe, respected, and welcomed.
However, the current management has failed to live up to these ideals. The values of respect, diversity, and inclusion that are supposedly at the heart of MFO have been compromised by discriminatory practices, unsafe conditions, and an oppressive atmosphere. We are calling for a return to MFO's core values and a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all clients and staff. It is crucial that MFO be run as a community-driven organisation, not one motivated by profit or personal interests.
Sign this petition to demand change at MFO. Together, we can restore the Multicultural Family Organisation to its original mission of providing compassionate, competent, and effective support to the Gold Coast's multicultural community.
