We, the undersigned, call on employers, organisations, and workplace leaders to strengthen autism awareness and create more inclusive working environments for autistic employees.

Autistic people bring valuable skills, perspectives, creativity, and dedication to the workplace. However, many continue to face barriers due to misunderstanding, lack of awareness, communication differences, and workplace practices that do not adequately support neurodiversity.

While many organisations already have policies, procedures, and legal obligations intended to support equality, diversity, and inclusion, there is often a significant gap between these commitments and the lived experiences of autistic employees. From personal experience, existing procedures are not always consistently followed, leaving autistic individuals without the support and adjustments they are entitled to receive.

An inclusive workplace benefits everyone. By improving understanding of autism and ensuring that existing policies are properly implemented, employers can help autistic employees thrive, contribute fully, and reach their potential.

We therefore ask employers to:

·         Provide autism and neurodiversity awareness training for managers and staff.

·        Ensure existing equality, diversity, and reasonable adjustment procedures are consistently followed and regularly reviewed.

·        Promote a workplace culture that values and respects neurological differences.

·        Ensure recruitment and interview processes are accessible and inclusive.

·        Offer reasonable workplace adjustments and support when requested.

·        Establish clear accountability measures when inclusion policies are not followed.

·        Encourage autistic voices to be included in decisions affecting workplace inclusion and accessibility.

By taking these steps, organisations can move beyond written policies and demonstrate genuine commitment to autism inclusion, creating workplaces where autistic people feel respected, supported, and empowered to succeed.

We urge employers, policymakers, and organisations to commit to meaningful autism inclusion and awareness initiatives, helping to build workplaces where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
