Subject: Request to Reconsider Opening Frequency 93.9 for Cabin Radio in NWT

Dear Members of the CRTC,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my strong support for the reconsideration of opening frequency 93.9 for cabin radio broadcasting in the Northwest Territories (NWT). As a resident of the NWT and a concerned advocate for communication inclusivity, I believe that assigning this frequency would be a significant step towards ensuring vital news-sharing and community connection.

The NWT faces unique challenges in terms of geographical remoteness and limited communication infrastructure. Cabin Radio plays an indispensable role in providing essential information and maintaining connections within remote communities, especially during adverse weather conditions or emergencies like now with current state of 5 communities being evacuated and threatened by record breaking wildfires in the NWT. However, the denial of the radio frequency application has led to a notable gap in access to crucial news and information for many residents.

With the recent passage of Bill C-18, there is an opportunity to address this gap in communication. While the bill encourages utilizing social media platforms for news-sharing, it is important to acknowledge that not all NWT residents have reliable access to these platforms due to varying internet connectivity. Frequency 93.9 would provide a reliable and accessible channel for remote communities to receive important updates and stay connected.

In light of the principles of inclusivity and equitable access to information, I kindly request the CRTC to reconsider and grant the opening of frequency 93.9 for cabin radio broadcasting in the NWT. Doing so would underscore the Commission's commitment to serving the diverse communication needs of all Canadians, particularly those in remote and underserved regions.

I am aware of the careful considerations that guide regulatory decisions. However, I firmly believe that allocating frequency 93.9 for cabin radio broadcasting would demonstrate the CRTC's dedication to enhancing communication resilience and ensuring that all residents, regardless of their location, can access timely and dependable news and information.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am optimistic about a positive response that aligns with the values of inclusivity, accessibility, and the empowerment of local communities.

Stay Strong NWT

Sincerely,
