PETITION FOR EARLY RELEASE AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT

In Support of De’Von Smith

To Whom It May Concern:

We, the undersigned family members, friends, and members of the community, respectfully submit this petition in support of De’Von Smith and his request for consideration of early release from incarceration.

De’Von  has served approximately 7½ years of his sentence. During this time, he has had the opportunity to reflect on his actions, accept responsibility, and work toward becoming a better person and productive member of society.

We understand the seriousness of the circumstances that resulted in his incarceration, and we do not seek to minimize or disregard the impact of those circumstances. However, we believe that people can grow, change, and demonstrate that they are ready for another opportunity.

Those of us signing this petition believe that De’Von deserves consideration for release and the opportunity to return home to his family and community under whatever conditions the appropriate authorities determine necessary.

Our hope is that his time incarcerated will not define the rest of his life. We believe he has the ability to move forward, make positive choices, and contribute meaningfully to his family and community.

We respectfully ask that his request for early release be given serious consideration.
