Petition for Capital Homes to Construct a Playground in The Reserve at Parker Village

The Issue

I’m a parent of four wonderful kids, and one of the main reasons we chose to build within The Reserve at Parker Village was the promise of a playground. Our previous neighborhood didn’t have one, so the appeal of having a place for our children to play, make friends, and enjoy themselves was crucial to us in our decision. We were sold on the idea that there would be a fully featured playground, not just a simple set of swings.

Tragically, we've been shortchanged. The developer, Capital Homes, has installed merely a set of swing sets and labeled it a "playground". This is not what we had been lead to believe, especially since their online and on-site advertisements explicitly say a playground. It is obvious that many families made the financial investment to build here under similar circumstances, their expectation being a neighborhood that fosters a strong, child-friendly community.

Playgrounds serve an essential role in a neighborhood's character and in children's development. They provide a space for physical activity, encourage exploration and creativity, and foster social connections amongst children - benefits that can't be afforded by a simple set of swings. Based on data from the National Recreation and Park Association, neighborhoods with good playgrounds see improvements in children's physical health and well-being, better social cohesion, and increased property values.

That's why we urge Capital Homes to make good on its promise and construct a proper playground in The Reserve at Parker Village, upholding not just their advertised promise, but our children's right to a healthy and playful childhood. Please sign this petition, and let’s together hold Capital Homes accountable for the social infrastructure they initially promised.

This is what is listed on their website. It has a tab to showcase their community amenities, and lists a playground as the first amenity, with this image.
