Petition for better housing at SUNO!

Petition for better housing at SUNO!

The Issue

At Southern, we as students have been put through so much. We have been harassed by housing directors and other student body members at this establishment. I want everyone to be well aware of the changes being made without their knowledge. Starting the Fall school year of 2023 SUNO has decided to take $450 from returning students and freshman for a housing application fee and damage fee. If you have already been living on SUNO campus then you know the conditions of these apartments. They are now putting on their seasoned students to make room for the freshmen who are paying for houses that are filled with sweet ants, gnats, unknown insects, roaches spiders, and mildew. We also deal with caterpillar invasions, water fly invasions, termite invasions, rat infestation. I do want this establishment to realize charging your students this atrocious fee to stay in dorms that can possibly cause you to potentially get sick is outrageous. To kick your students out of housing to simply because you want to make room to be able to collect money is simply outrageous. To ambush your students to pay their entire or full balance simply because you no longer wanted them in housing and wanted to find any way to kick them out is outrageous. They threatened students with calling the police to remove them and their belongings is outrageous and not to mention throwing out student belongings when we all know packing and moving out is not the easiest thing to do when you most likely have no help. I want everyone to be aware of this establishment and how they are treating their students. Nothing about these building are with a damage fee or $200, the money most likely will not be spent correctly and these buildings will look like this until your kids are in college. This school has been here for years and there has not been a change in housing since. Some of the damages in these dorms have been here since the year of 2019. I think it would be wise to stop changing policies and fees when your facility is not completely together. I would also like to inform anyone attending this school that they can and will make few changes to Tuition without your knowledge which is an inconvenience to you, me and your parents. They recently kicked a student off campus but called him back because he had a job working with the school, but because they informed this young man he had to come out his pocket $450 after he had already paid $1,500 to them for the summer he exposed the truth about the school. He came back to school to move back in his apartment, only to be told he was fired and no longer welcomed on SUNO campus. This family came from another part of Louisiana with their child and lord knows it’s not easy picking up and dropping off a child to college, so to make this family do that twice in 1 month just to turn the student around is completely unfair. Please sign this petition & fight with SUNO students for not only better housing but for a better SUNO experience!
