We, the undersigned, express our support for the peaceful and democratic establishment of Crimea as an independent and sovereign state, separate from both the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

Crimea has a unique history, culture, and identity. It is also the historic homeland of the Crimean Tatar people, an indigenous people of Crimea whose connection to the peninsula has endured through centuries of political upheaval, persecution, deportation, displacement, and changes of government.

For generations, decisions about Crimea have repeatedly been made by larger states and political powers. The people whose lives, families, culture, and history are rooted in Crimea have often had limited ability to determine their own political future.

We believe another vision deserves to be heard.

We support the idea of Crimea as a peaceful, democratic, independent state in which Crimean Tatars and all communities living on the peninsula can participate equally in determining their future.

An independent Crimea should protect fundamental human rights, freedom of religion and expression, private property, cultural and linguistic rights, and equal citizenship regardless of ethnicity or background.

The Crimean Tatar people, as an indigenous people of Crimea, should have meaningful constitutional guarantees protecting their language, culture, heritage, political representation, and continued presence in their historic homeland.

This petition does not call for violence, hostility, or forced territorial change. It advocates peaceful political dialogue and the principle that the future of Crimea should ultimately be determined through legitimate, democratic, and peaceful means, with the rights and voices of the people of Crimea fully represented.

We recognize that people hold deeply different views regarding Crimea’s political status. This petition exists to demonstrate that there is also support for a third possibility:

Crimea should be neither Russian nor Ukrainian, but an independent and sovereign state.

Our goal is to allow people around the world who share this vision to make their position visible.
