The Issue

To the Principal, School Management, and Governing Board of The Somaiya School, Vidyavihar, Mumbai

We, the undersigned parents and students of The Somaiya School, respectfully request the installation of air conditioning in all classrooms and a review of the current school uniform fabric to ensure a more comfortable, healthy, and productive learning environment for every student.

In recent years, Mumbai has experienced increasingly high temperatures and prolonged periods of heat and humidity. As a result, many students spend their school days in uncomfortable classroom conditions that can lead to fatigue, dehydration, headaches, reduced concentration, and lower academic performance. When students are physically uncomfortable, their ability to learn, participate, and perform at their best is significantly affected.

A classroom should be a place where students can focus entirely on education without being distracted by extreme heat. In today’s climate, air-conditioned classrooms are no longer a luxury but an essential facility that supports student well-being, health, and academic success.

We deeply appreciate the school’s commitment to providing quality education and acknowledge the investments made in infrastructure and development over the years. As the school fees continue to increase periodically, we believe it is both reasonable and necessary that classroom facilities evolve to meet the changing needs of students and current environmental conditions.

In addition, we respectfully request that the school review the material used for the school uniform. Many students find the current fabric to be heavy, rough, and insufficiently breathable for Mumbai’s hot and humid climate. A lighter, softer, and more breathable fabric would significantly improve student comfort, help reduce heat-related discomfort during the school day, and contribute positively to overall well-being.

Therefore, we respectfully request that the school:

* Commit to installing air conditioning in all classrooms.
* Provide parents and students with a clear implementation plan and timeline.
* Consider a phased installation process, if required, while ensuring that all classrooms are ultimately covered.
* Keep the school community informed about the progress of this initiative.
* Review and upgrade the school uniform fabric to a more breathable and climate-appropriate material that is comfortable for students throughout the year.

This petition is submitted in the spirit of constructive partnership, with the shared objective of creating the best possible learning environment for every child.

We sincerely hope that the school administration will give these concerns thoughtful and urgent consideration and take positive steps toward ensuring that students can learn in comfort, safety, and dignity.

Respectfully submitted,

The Undersigned Parents and Students of The Somaiya School
