Petition for Administrative Review of Roxana Maldonado Due to Ongoing Student Concerns
The Issue
Roxana Maldonado is a Spanish teacher at Pioneer Valley High School. Students, parents, and members of the community have repeatedly filed multiple complaints against her with the school district, however, no action is being taken and she remains employed at the school. Because of this inaction, this petition has been created. Those who sign are supporting the request that the administration formally review the conduct and performance of Roxana Maldonado and take appropriate action based on the multiple concerns below.
Many students have experienced or witnessed verbal comments that are disrespectful, degrading, and sometimes targeted toward student’s intelligence, background, or appearance. These interactions have created an uncomfortable learning environment and have negatively impacted students and their ability to participate in class.
Students have many concerns about the quality and fairness of her curriculum. Many assignments are entirely generated by AI, and, while technically not prohibited by the district, provide students little meaningful support for learning. A unreasonable number of assignments are assigned at once, are unexpectedly locked or made inaccessible, and assignments are duplicated and shown as incomplete, which all creates confusion and makes it difficult for students to complete any assignments. None of this allows students to learn and grow. Roxana has failed to teach any of the required curriculum, which leaves students extremely confused and disadvantaged when they move onto another Spanish class the next year.
There are also concerns regarding grading practices. Students have reported frequent inconsistencies in grading, such as, for example, the exact same group work appearing to receive different scores for each student, which has occurred multiple times to multiple different students. This leads students to question whether grades are being assigned fairly and consistently.
When students bring up any of these concerns with Roxana, students are dismissed, met with hostility, and, ultimately, the problem is never properly addressed or fixed.
Students have reported an unacceptable amount of instances of extremely inappropriate comments made in the classroom towards students that do not reflect the professional standards expected of an educator. All of this misconduct has been occurring for far too long. These reports date back years, yet nothing has been done.
Every student at Pioneer Valley High School deserves a respectful, fair, and supportive learning environment. However, this clearly isn’t being provided, so students and the community are asking that the administration finally takes the necessary steps that they have consistently failed to take to make sure students get the quality education and treatment they all deserve.
We encourage students, parents, staff, and other members of the community to support this petition by adding their signature. One signature means everything to get justice for students.
If you have personally experienced or witnessed any of the issues described above, we invite you to leave a comment detailing your experience. Your story matters and deserves to be told.
Students are tired of being treated this way by a professional who is supposed to guide and teach them. Students are tired of nothing being done for years. Students demand change.
