This is a very personal issue for me: For more trans and LGBT protagonism in cinema. I, like many others, believe that more diverse representation on the big screen is vital. Trans and LGBT+ representations in cinema are few and far between, and this needs to change. According to the 2020 GLAAD report, of the 118 films released by major studios in 2019, only 22 (18.6%) included LGBTQ+ characters. The selection of trans actress YASMIN FINNEY for the role of Tiana in Disney's upcoming live action "The Princess and the Frog" would be a powerful and necessary step in that direction. Not only is she a talented actress, but she is also a passionate supporter of trans and LGBT+ rights. For the power of cinema to shape opinions and normalize diversity in society, Disney, we urge you to make the right decision. Hiring actress YASMIN FINNEY for the role of Tiana would be an important step towards a more inclusive and representative future for all of us. Doing so will not only show your commitment to diversity, but it will also send a powerful message of acceptance and equality to your audience.
