Petition for a Vote of No Confidence in the Leadership of the Town of Bridgewater

We, the undersigned residents, taxpayers, property owners, and stakeholders of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, express our profound lack of confidence in the leadership and decision-making of the Town Manager and members of the Town Council.

We are calling for these officials to recognize the growing loss of public trust and accountability in Bridgewater and take meaningful action to restore confidence in our local government.

Residents are calling for greater accountability, transparency, and responsible leadership from our Town government.

Over the past year, residents have become increasingly concerned about the direction of our community and the decisions being made by our municipal leadership.

Our concerns extend to the Town Manager and members of the Town Council, particularly regarding the handling and communication of critical issues involving our water supply, municipal finances, development, infrastructure, public records, emergency expenditures, and major agreements affecting the future of Bridgewater.

This petition is not about one political party, one personality, or one isolated disagreement.

It is about trust.

Call to Action

By signing this petition, we are asking the Town Council and Town Manager to take immediate and meaningful steps to restore public trust and accountability in Bridgewater.

Specifically, we are calling for:

Timely responses to residents: Town Councilors and Town officials should respond to emails and constituent concerns in a timely and reasonable manner. Residents should not have to repeatedly follow up to receive an acknowledgment or substantive response from their elected representatives.

Transparency regarding the investigation of the Town Manager: Residents deserve clear information about the investigation involving the Town Manager, including the nature and status of the investigation to the extent permitted by law. The public also deserves an explanation of why the Town Manager continues to perform his duties while an investigation is ongoing and what safeguards, oversight, or measures are in place to protect the interests of the Town during this process.

Greater transparency regarding the water emergency: Residents are asking for timely, accurate, and comprehensive information about the Town's water emergency, including what happened, what actions have been taken, what decisions have been made, the costs incurred, and what is being done to prevent similar problems in the future.

Transparency and accountability regarding public records: Public records requests should be handled promptly, consistently, and transparently, in accordance with applicable Massachusetts law. Residents should receive timely updates regarding the status of their requests and clear explanations when records are withheld, redacted, or delayed.

Open and accessible government: The Town Council and Town administration should provide residents with meaningful information about major decisions affecting the community, rather than requiring residents to repeatedly seek information that should be readily available to the public.
We are asking our elected officials to listen to the residents they represent, provide timely answers to legitimate questions, and restore the transparency and accountability that are essential to public confidence in local government.

Our message is simple: Residents deserve answers. Residents deserve transparency. Residents deserve accountability. And residents deserve a Town government that responds to them.
