Petition for a Joint Special Meeting on AI Data Centers
Please join us in asking that the Trumbull Town Council hold a joint Special Meeting with our Planning & Zoning Commission to discuss the proposed AI Data Center for the Trumbull Corporate Park (80 Merritt Blvd) and AI Data Centers in general. Ideally, we’d like to request a one-year moratorium on any new or expanded data centers in the Town of Trumbull in order to give our town leaders ample time to learn more about the ramifications of AI Data Centers.
Thank you for your support,
Sarah, Sherry, and Richard

Background:
On Thursday, June 26 we sent the following to our Town Council and Planning and Zoning Commission:
We would like to ask that our Town Council hold a joint Special Meeting with our Planning and Zoning Commission to discuss the proposed AI Data Center for the Trumbull Corporate Park and AI Data Centers in general. Ideally, we’d like to request a one-year moratorium on any new or expanded data centers in the Town of Trumbull in order to give our town leaders ample time to learn more about the ramifications of AI Data Centers.
When the Special Meeting has been scheduled, we respectfully request that representatives from our Zoning Board of Appeals, Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission, Conservation Commission, and other relevant boards and commissions also be invited to participate. We also ask that the meeting allow for public comment and be widely publicized through the Town’s website and social media channels to encourage public participation.
We believe the meeting should address the following topics with input from appropriate experts, agencies, and stakeholders:
Electricity Demand and Infrastructure
- Expected energy consumption of any proposed facility.
- Input from PURA and United Illuminating regarding electrical infrastructure requirements, grid capacity, reliability, and potential impacts on residential ratepayers.
Water Demand and Supply
- Expected water consumption of any proposed facility.
- Input from PURA, Aquarion, and other relevant agencies regarding available supply, infrastructure requirements, and potential impacts on residential ratepayers.
Wastewater and Sewer Capacity
- Expected wastewater generation and discharge requirements.
- Input from the WPCA and system operators regarding available capacity, infrastructure needs, and potential impacts on residential ratepayers.
Public Health and Environmental Impacts
- Potential impacts related to air quality, water quality, noise, construction activity, emergency services, and overall community health.
- Input from local and state public health and environmental experts.
Economic and Fiscal Impacts
- Expected impact on the Grand List and municipal revenues over the life of the facility.
- Potential effects on residential and commercial property values, particularly in surrounding neighborhoods.
- Analysis from the Tax Assessor and commercial real estate professionals.
We believe an informational Special Meeting would help ensure that elected officials, appointed boards and commissions, and residents have a common understanding of the challenges, long-term implications, and opportunities associated with AI Data Centers before any decisions are made.
