Traffic safety is a major concern in school zones. Madison Street in Lombard not only houses two schools (elementary and Pre-K-12), it also contains bus stops and is a popular route for school buses. Naturally, this causes a lot of congestion on busy school mornings, leading to multiple traffic violations. This causes a problem, as many students choose to walk through Madison Street in order to reach their school, so as not to get stuck in their own school parking lot. While traffic safety campaigns have been initiated by the Lombard Police Department, students everyday face significant risks from an act as simple as crossing the road. Due to this, we are advocating for at least one crossing guard on stationed around the Madison and Elizabeth Street area in Lombard.
