The Issue

Dear San Diegans,

EDIT: Please DO NOT send any money! Just the signatures are needed :) The prompt asking for donations is from the website, you can simply ignore by clicking skip.

Like many others in our community, I am concerned about the hazardous conditions of Via De La Valle. This stretch of road has become notorious for being known as a “construction zone”. Not because it is under repair, but because of its severely disordered state. Potholes and cracks plague this 1.4 mile-distance, yet neither the city nor a supposed owner steps up to mend it.

Every day, hundreds of unsuspecting drivers traverse Via De La Valle, only to damage their tires on jagged rocks and obvious potholes. My own tires have suffered, and countless friends and family members have shared in this misfortune. This stretch of road is unsafe, and its condition worsens day after day.

Beyond the personal inconvenience and financial toll it takes on us, this issue poses grave safety risks. Defective roads contribute to traffic accidents and vehicular damage, potentially endangering the lives of drivers and passengers. Moreover, degraded streets impose a negative impression on surrounding affluent neighborhoods, suggesting neglect and indifference to public welfare.

The city claims there is a plan to fix the road in several years from now, meanwhile all of us have to destroy our cars and potentially get into severe accidents. However, this failure to act neglects a basic public service duty. The government exists to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, and we need to call them on it or nothing will change.

I am calling upon Rancho Santa Fe and neighboring communities to unite and urge our city officials to prioritize the repair of Via De La Valle. A well-maintained road is not a luxury but a necessity for safe driving. The people of Rancho Santa Fe are tired, the people who have the misfortune of driving up and down Via De La Valle are tired.

Let's stand together and demand the necessary repairs from our local authorities. Our collective voices can drive change and compel the responsible entity to take action that should have occurred long ago. I myself will make sure this petition is seen by the city and the people responsible for the road neglect, thousands of dollars in car repairs, and unhappy residents. If they can get away with this for so long, what else could they try to get away with? Sign this petition to help ensure the safety of our community and restore the integrity of Via De La Valle!

I am looking for at least 500 signatures in order to gain attention from local news articles to eventually get this in front of the city. The more signatures we receive, the more we can sway the minds of the officials who have the authority to fix the road. I am a 16-year-old who is realizing that if I do not try and make change, no one will. Below are some of the actual screenshots/proof of satellite images of this 1.4 mile road deteriorating.

Thank you all for your time and cooperation, I will do my best to do what I can. Call on your neighbors, friends, family: send this petition link around to all who feel the rage of the road issues. Perhaps our voices will be heard with a large number of signatures attached to it.
