Petition East Ayrshire Council to pause housing developments in Stewarton

Petition East Ayrshire Council to pause housing developments in Stewarton

The Issue

Stewarton is facing an increasing threat of overdevelopment. Many residents are deeply concerned about the proposed housing projects that risk placing an even greater strain on our already overstretched infrastructure.

At present, our only GP surgery reaches full capacity within 30 minutes of opening most days of the week. Schools are stretched to capacity, roads are in need of urgent care and public services in the town are struggling to keep up with demand. Adding hundreds of new homes without first improving essential services will only worsen the situation, and make it even harder for residents to access vital healthcare & other services.

The Bonnet Toun cannot sustain further expansion without serious commitment from East Ayrshire Council. Before approving any more housing developments, the Council must prioritise the basics that every community depends on: healthcare, education and transport.

We, the residents of Stewarton, call on East Ayrshire Council to pause all new housing developments until these essential improvements are made. We urge East Ayrshire Council to recognise the pressing need and commit to more effective long-term planning to strengthen our town's infrastructure.

Our key demands:

  • Work with NHS Ayrshire & Arran to expand our existing GP surgery, or build a new one, to meet the growing healthcare needs of residents.
  • Investment in road repairs and traffic management to improve safety and reduce congestion within the town.
  • Increased school capacity and resources to ensure local children can attend local schools.

Please join us in standing up for responsible development by signing this petition.
