If Bess Truman had known President Truman would drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, she would have told him not to do it.  It was probably such an unthinkable possibility to her, that she couldn't tell her husband not to do it.

Women must decry violence even though it is so obvious to them that it is wrong.  President Truman may have thought he impressed his wife with violence that is clearly forbidden by the principles of our constitution.

It's possible that a wife can believe her husband knows he did something wrong, and she therefore appears to him to condone his action that she believes is obviously wrong, because she doesn't think it's necessary to speak up.

We all need to become better communicators to give our children peace.
