Yesterday evening, unbeknownst to them, a Haymarket family spent their last night with their teenage son. He died in a preventable accident today (10/19/21).

The boy, a 13 year old student at Ronald Reagan Middle School in Prince William County, Virginia, was hit by a car near the intersection of Route 15 and Dominion Valley and did not survive. (Note that the child ran out into traffic - the driver did not run a red). Apparently, Haymarket locals know this is a dangerous intersection and many cars run the red light or do not pay close attention. Many Battlefield High School students also cross at this intersection on foot daily.

A Facebook group called Coalition for Route 15 Safe Passage has been trying to alert people to the danger of that intersection for awhile now but they haven't had success.

Even one young person dying a preventable death is too many. There is a solution, however. Please install a pedestrian overpass at the Route 15 and Dominion Valley intersection so that this kind of tragedy does not happen again.
