Outlaw Declaw - Safeguard our paw buddies.
The Issue
Saving one cat won't change the world but it will change the world for one cat. An important privilege that comes with having a voice and freedom of speech is using it for those who don't have one.
Onychectomy, popularly known as declawing, is an operation to remove cat's claws surgically through the amputation of all or part of the end bones, of the cat's toes. Declawing is purely animal cruelty and is performed on cats merely to prevent minor damage to household possessions caused by scratching; instead, we can trim their nails and use Softpaws and providing them artificial scratch posts. Softpaws are non-toxic vinyl nail caps for cats and dogs, which also is the best alternative to declawing. However, declawing is outlawed in at least 22 countries such as Australia, Canada, Israel, United Kingdom, Scotland, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Et Cetera. It is our turn to get this horrendous act banned in India too.
The adverse effects of declawing are:-
1.Infections that get deep-rooted to the bone and/or spreads across the entire body.
2. Paw pain and nerve damage.
3. Many times some tissues get left behind that tries to form deformed claw under the skin causing extreme long term pain as well as leading to the formation of Abscess ( a swollen part filled with pus).
4. Cats will not be able to walk and be in pain for a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks. It leads to lameness or abnormality in the movement of cats permanently when too much tissue is removed while declawing.
5. Claws naturally support cats to walk, when removed leads to back pain for the long term.
6. Causes blisters, bone splinters, bone protrusion.
7. They get irritable, have mood swings, and get stressed.
8. Declawed cats turn aggressive too.
The above list can continue how cruel this procedure is to cats. I urge you to sign this petition to get declawing banned in India. Not all of us have resources or adequate requirements to adopt cats but we can at least support this petition and save so many cats from getting declawed. You are just a click away from doing a virtuous deed.
