Why this petition matters

Started by Stephen Best

As a resident of Perth and Citizen of Australia I wrote to Howard and Sons Pyrotechnics.

"Australia is witnessing some of the worst devastation due to bush fires it has ever seen. People have lost homes, lives and the true cost to wildlife and environment will not be known for years to come.

While we as a country rally our support we cannot ignore the fact that as a human race we are solely responsible for the results of our actions. We also need to show empathy and respect for those that have lost so much while the rest of us remain untouched.

In 2017 the Skyworks show was cancelled within 2 hours of its scheduled start, albeit this was because the swan river had become a crime scene. The fireworks from that year were reported to have been used then for the 2018 show which goes to prove that there are always options in situations like this.

I would implore you to have the foresight, maturity and empathy for your fellow Australian Citizens to start working with the Perth Council to look at the possibility of cancelling the Skyworks Pyro musical 2020. The symbolism of exploding fireworks at a time when we have uncontrolled bush fires raging is going to be controversial to say the least. Some say we still need to celebrate and have fun, others won't even know where they will be sleeping that evening due to losing everything.

I challenge you to stand up and be part of the community, show leadership and empathy for the current crisis. Be public and transparent and if needs be call-out the Perth Council if they will not discuss alternative solutions for this year’s show.

Yours Sincerely"

Support me in putting influence on the Perth Council and Fireworks operator to rethink this years show.
