The Issue

As a dedicated resident along the route 2 and a town councillor for Shanklin town council and Lake Parish Council, I frequently hear from my fellow community members about the challenges of limited evening transport options along the 2 route. With the last bus Monday - Saturday from Newport to Ryde at 18:20 and the other direction 18:10. Every day, locals express their desire for an accessible, direct bus service to Newport during the evenings, so they don't have to take the much longer route 3. Extra evening route 2's are not only a convenience; it’s a necessity for many people who depend on public transport for work, shopping, and social activities.

The lack of an evening service on route 2 significantly restricts mobility and can even isolate those without alternative transportation means. Southern Vectis, serving the picturesque Isle of Wight, has an opportunity to address this critical gap in public transportation. By adding an evening service to route 2, Southern Vectis can enhance the quality of life for countless residents and support a greener, more connected community.

Statistics show that reliable public transportation leads to increased economic activity, lower pollution levels, and improved community health. Evening services would not only benefit commuters but also boost local businesses, as residents spend more time and money locally. Ensuring that areas between Ryde, Oakfield, Sandown, Shanklin & Newport remain accessible after daylight hours encourages eco-friendly travel and aids in reducing the island's carbon footprint.

Moreover, offering evening services would be a testament to Southern Vectis's commitment to customer satisfaction and community well-being. As public transport serves as the lifeline for many, having access to buses in the evening would empower residents, fostering a stronger, more united Isle of Wight.

Please join me in urging Southern Vectis to include an evening service on route 2. Together, we can make our voices heard for a more inclusive and sustainable transit system. Sign this petition to show your support and help make a necessary change for our community.
