Comprehensive sex education has been proven to lower the numbers of teenagers who have sex at a young age and educates them on the necessary tools to practice safe sex, regardless of sexual orientation. Education and exposure to diversity is vital for any school to foster a more accepting and compassionate generation of young adults. The signers of this petition support the following actions that must be taken by the Perry Local Schools Board of Education:

1. Amend current curriculum to teach students in Perry Local Schools comprehensive sexual education that includes, positive representation of same-sex relationships and gender identity and instruction on safe sex practices (e.g. condoms, birth control, testing, etc.),
2. Amend bullying and zero tolerance policies to include sexual orientation and gender identity,
3. Provide resources to those questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, and
4. Educate teachers and staff members on how to create a safe environment for LGBTQIA+ students to learn and interact with peers.

With these actions put into effect, Perry Local Schools will become safer for LGBTQIA+ students to learn.
