I'm a student at New Paltz High School, and like many others, I have friends who go to different schools in other districts. Many of us have relationships and friendships that cross the borders of our school districts. Unfortunately, we're currently not allowed to invite individuals from other districts to our homecoming and other school dances. This policy is limiting and underestimates the value of inclusiveness in our school community.

This is not just a story of a few students. An estimated 40% of high schoolers nationwide maintain friendships outside of their school districts. These friendships are crucial in fostering tolerance, understanding, and diversity among the youth.

New Paltz High School prides itself on its commitment to inclusivity and open dialogue. By allowing students to invite a date from an outside school district, our school can live up to these values, positively impacting our student body. Parents, students, and faculty: let's come together to create a more welcoming environment at our school events.
