Permit Operation Of Absolute Sweetness Cafe While Permits Are In Issue

The Issue

Permit Continued Operation of Absolute Sweetness' Community Building Business While Permits Are Being Issued.

As an entrepreneurial small business owner in South Montebello, I started Absolute Sweetness Cafe due to the absence of coffee shops in our local area that did not go beyond the train tracks. Upon hearing our community, most of our neighbors found it inconvenient to risk getting stuck at the train tracks for over ten minutes for a coffee shop. Our business has not only fixed that inconvenience, but also become a cherished meeting spot and a symbol of community spirit.

While we have been made aware of our City's additional license requirements and fully respect and adhere to the regulations in place, we believe there is a potential middle ground - allowing us to continue operating while the permits get processed. Closing down during this time would be a loss to our community and surrounding areas, which have looked forward to us for their daily dose of sweetness and neighborly interactions, especially our early birds at 6 am or graveyard people in need of a midnight pick-me-up.

This is not an unreasonable request, as it has been reported that more cities and states, recognizing the significant economic contribution of small businesses, are considering similar measures (source: Small Business Administration, 2020). Given South Montebello's unfortunate lack of small businesses below the train track, such as our coffee business, there are not many options for our community if we were to shut down.

I, therefore, kindly request your support in urging our local authorities to consider this as a viable option. Your signature can make a difference and ensure the continued operation of Absolute Sweetness Café during the permit approval phase. Please sign and help keep a local business alive.

Fun Fact - While some of you are thinking you aren't a coffee lover or fan of sweet drinks, we have actually changed a handful of people's minds that only came as a companion on their friends mini coffee runs!
