I had the special opportunity to speak with Israa Saleh, a doctor and activist based in Gaza. She shared her first-hand experience assisting women and girls who have limited access to essential period products, such as sanitary pads and pain relief medicine. Her concerns were deeply troubling, highlighting the unsanitary means that women and girls have been forced to turn to in order to manage their menstrual cycles.

Unfortunately, it's easy to overlook the critical importance of menstrual hygiene, especially in conflict zones like Gaza. Where resources are incredibly limited, access to sanitary products becomes an issue of dignity and health. Without proper menstrual supplies, women and girls risk infection and ongoing discomfort, which adds to the already overwhelming challenges they face daily.

Menstruation is a natural and inevitable part of life for women and girls. While basic necessities such as food and water are rightfully prioritized, menstrual products must not fall by the wayside. The same trucks and vehicles that deliver these basic supplies in Gaza could and should deliver sanitary products as well.

Aid organizations play a crucial role in supporting the needs of those caught in conflict. It is imperative that they expand their focus to include menstrual products in their deliveries. Such a shift ensures the health and dignity of countless women and girls.

Let's urge those in power and decision-makers at aid organizations to take immediate action.  Support this call for change by signing the petition and ensure that menstrual hygiene is prioritized during aid operations.
